Laser imaging radar is able to acquire the three-dimensional information of target in direct, fast and accurate way. Here study a new imaging radar technique with area array sensor based on the principle of mapping of range to gain at high speed. The subdivision of range within a large gating distance is achieved in accordance with the relation of range-time and gain-time. It breakthrough the limitation of only one distance resolved at one gating time in the traditional principles. Also, because of use of flooding illumination and area array sensor, no mechanical scanner is required. It is suitable for airborne application and dynamic measurement. The key technologies including the principle of three-dimensional imaging method, high-speed gain modulation of range Sensor Array, narrow pulse modulation techniques for high power quasi-continuous stacked LD array.
