Abstract

This paper presents a GPU-based method for interactive global illumination that integrates complex effects such as multi-bounce indirect lighting, glossy reflections, caustics, and arbitrary specular paths. We propose a new parallel irradiance caching strategy and a new approximation, illumination cut on photon tree, to reduce sampling cost and accelerate final gathering, respectively. As a result, our algorithm is the first approach to achieve interactive rates for scenes with multi-bounce diffuse and specular global illumination effects.
