This paper considers joined problems of control and communication in wireless sensor and actuator networks for building environment control systems. We develop a centralized control (CC) and a distributed control (DC) scheme, and also methods that enable wireless communications among devices compatible with the control strategies. We compare the two schemes in many aspects. The results show that the DC can achieve comparable control performance of the CC, while the DC is more robust against packet loss and has lower actuation latency as well as computational complexity than the CC.
