On the morning of April 13, the West Lake Forum held the 86th meeting. Jin Xianglong, the Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Director of the Center for Ocean Research, Zhejiang University (ZJU), Gong Xianyi, the Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor of ZJU and other professors & experts from the Ocean University of China, the Navy Dalian Warship Institute, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Connecticut were invited to make subjective reports. They discussed about the development of the Ocean Information Engineering Technology and made suggestions for further step. The meeting was hosted by Prof. Liu Xu, the Director of FIT.
The Ocean Information Engineering refers to the generation, transmission & processing and merging of underwater information, including underwater sensor & network, remote sensing of ocean environment and so on. The experts prospected the development of Ocean Information Engineering Technology in different sides, such as “the development of access technology of remote sensing information”, “Computer vision and image processing techniques used for underwater”, etc. Academician Jin Xianglong did a summarization and gave some suggestions.
Shen Jianzhong, Director of the Ministry of Science and Technology, reviewed the 863 plan for the development in the ocean technology area in his report. And he put forward the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” for the deep sea exploration, exploration of oil and gas, development of ocean resources and ocean environmental security.
Wu Zhaohui, the vice President of ZJU, attended meeting and made a speech. He introduced of the development of ocean technology during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” and then stated the features of IT: mass date, Sensing Network and systematization. He thought that development of ocean information engineering technology would deeply influenced by these features.
The attendants also include the members of 863 experts group, leaders of school and related students and teachers. The Forum was co-hosted by FIT of ZJU and Center for Ocean Research of ZJU.
